On these varied and challenging 12-18 month programmes, you'll gain a broad understanding of how an investment bank works. At the same time, you'll build a network across our corporate and investment banking division (CIB) and make a valuable contribution to our business.

Graduate rotations

We've designed the programmes in three distinct sections, giving you the chance to gain extensive exposure and experience. You'll start by focusing on building your technical and soft skills through classroom-based training. After this, you'll rotate through all the business units in CIB, developing a broad understanding of our products, teams and clients. Finally, you'll spend at least six months specialising and developing your expertise in your chosen area of interest.

Through your rotations, you'll experience a wide range of work, from research and job shadowing to attending client meetings and functions, report writing and analysis. After experiencing the sheer variety of roles available in our business, you'll be able to identify the work that suits you best.

Your rotations will be in these business areas:

Global Markets

As the investment world shifts its attention to Africa, our global markets team is at the forefront, providing trading, sales, structuring and risk management solutions for our clients across different time zones and continents.

It's an exciting, high-pressure environment where you'll thrive on the fast pace and tight deadlines of the trading floor. Working alongside some of the best in the business, you'll gain hands-on experience as well as direct exposure to all our global markets areas, including foreign exchange, commodities, equity, credit, fixed income and debt instruments. In short, in our constantly changing environment you'll never stand still.

Investment Banking

In this division we provide efficient, tailored solutions for larger corporates, governments, financial institutions and international counterparties. Our comprehensive advisory services include mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings, corporate restructurings and research. We also deliver a full range of financing solutions including term lending, structured debt finance, asset finance, project finance and structured trade and commodity finance. Our specialist teams focus on industry sectors that are most relevant to African and other emerging markets. These include mining and metals; oil, gas and renewables; telecommunications and media; power and infrastructure; agribusiness; and financial institutions.

We've been involved in a range of major transactions, including being joint lead arranger for the development of the Gautrain, lead financial advisor and investment bank to Metorex for the 2011 R9.1bn takeover by China's Jinchuan Group, and joint book-runner for South Africa's 2011 US$2bn bond issuance. So, if you enjoy innovating and problem solving you'll thrive in this area.

Credit Risk

With the banking industry shifting to an economic capital business philosophy and the evolution of sophisticated derivative markets, risk management has become enormously complex and increasingly professional. Credit risk management is crucial in understanding the nature and quality of our counterparties as well as which industries and countries they work in.

We partner the business to understand credit risk so we can apply appropriate pricing to optimise the bank's risk-adjusted return. This involves understanding and assessing a range of risk areas including credit, financial, economic, legal, political, regulatory, environmental and reputational risks. Join us and you'll enjoy direct, dynamic and stimulating exposure to all the key businesses and transactions at the heart of CIB's expertise.

Our account executives in this team work closely with corporate and institutional clients around the world, giving them expert advice, creative banking solutions and excellent service to meet all their banking needs. Acting as a single point of entry into the bank's competencies and expertise, they offer access to product specialists covering everything from routine banking enquiries to complex financial transactions and investments.

Relationship managers work with our business development directors who have broad finance and banking experience and specialist industry knowledge. Using their strategic expertise and insight, they ensure that all solutions are customised to meet our clients' specific requirements.
